Globalisation has made the world much smaller. Not that long ago, the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland's main exposure to the world came through the work of its missionaries. That exposure continues, but most Finns now travel regularly abroad, and the church is committed to offering spiritual support to expatriates and travellers alike.
In bringing the churches of the world closer together, the ecumenical movement has made possible partnership and cooperation agreements between denominations, and the church's work abroad depends in large measure on good ecumenical relations and practice.
The church also plays a major role in both development work and disaster relief.
These pages introduce the scope of what the church does outside Finland.
